If you're passing the Chinese Wal-Mart, pick us up a bag of pig faces will you?

21 May 2010

The good folks at BuzzFeed have carefully compiled a pictorial collection of some of the stuff that can only be found at Chinese branches of global supermarket behemoth Wal-Mart (owners of our very own Asda).

Here’s a couple of tasters but we recommend you check out the rest. Pig’s faces anyone? No…?

How about some crocodiles then? You’ll have a crocodile surely? No…? Oh.

I think the comment system on that website is WTF and LOL. In the future we will be able to express the entire spectrum of human thought, feelings and experience with a four buttoned keyboard.

On my travels I brought some tanuki testicles thinking they were badger balls. A common mistake apparently.

Next time could you put a warning on for those of us who check your site on our lunch breaks. You almost put me off my sweetmeats
  • Wonky H.
I heard that the testicles on a Tanuki are normal sized, that is proportionate to its body. Only in cartoons and on statues do they have MASSIVE BALLS.

@Wonky Henry I'm disappointed... no fox or badger reference.. gutted :(
  • Wonky H.
Hi There F. Finger, Yeah, I know. I don't do the foxes anymore. That Wonky Henry has gone.....
  • Wonky H.
Tanuki are kinda like badgers mind.

I'd like one of those crocodiles. I could keep it in the front garden (till it rots), to scare off potential thieves.... Also, there is an evening 'meat' market in Beijing which I visited a few months ago, which sells far worse stuff than this. A some of those things are still living.....

    But do they have DoubleDowns?

Crocodile's actually pretty bland as is Kangaroo.

The "turtles" on the website are mostly frogs/toads. The mixed meat is pretty vile - people just grabbing left right and centre, bleugh. In fact, the whole thing is pretty disturbing. Except for the bulk rice - I loled.
  • Wonky H.
What are the differences between the two bulk rice boxes? One is half the price of the other.
  • (jah) w.
I'm not sure what is LOL at bulk rice? Loads of shops here in the UK sell it - if I don't want a 20kg sack I'll sometimes weigh out 10kg of bulk rice.
  • (jah) w.
Also I'd imagine the difference between the two bulk rice boxes are different varieties, of which there are loads to choose from, could be any variety of rice, which could then be either white, brown or semi-polished.
  • Amanda H.
I actually bought some of the cheap rice, but when I got home I found a few grains of the neighbouring expensive rice mixed in. Woah!

@Wonky Henry: What are those yellow things in the Croc picture, they look tasty. Chinese people.
  • KTF
People in different cultures/countries eat different things to us. Imagine that.
  • That t.
You think they eat some weird shit? You want to ask what goes into the pies at Greggs, at least the chinese don't try to hide their food.
