British Gas pushes up prices in time for Christmas

12 November 2010

Bitterwallet - British GasIt's November, Christmas is nearly here and the last few days have been colder than usual for the time of year - so it seems the ideal opportunity to British Gas to ramp up their prices. Hooray! Oh.

British Gas customers can expect a 7 per cent rise in their bills from 10th December, an increase that'll mean dual fuel accounts costing an average of £80 more per year.

Low income families will have the increases deferred until the new year, while 1.6 million customers on fixed priced tariffs won't be affected.

Is noone there got any idea about public relations? if they up prices during summer there would be far less speculation about it. fools.

'Dual' fuel, unless it truly is going to get so expensive that we'll be fighting for gas supplies with pistols at dawn in the Regent's Park.

Just waiting to get this quarter's electricity bill and I'm off. Plenty of decent cash back deals floating around for a dual fuel switch

Had a fella at the doorstep the other day trying to get me to switch to British Gas. He claimed to know nothing about this rise which , as luck would have it, was reported in the paper that morning. Complete tool.

This increase is absolutely scandalous and is nothing more than blatant profiteering; this comes on the back of a massive increase in profits the last two years running. It seems these utility companies have no social conscience whatsoever, and their timing just before the start of the cold winter, is just so cynical and callous. They don't seem to care less that millions of elderly and poor people will freeze in their homes this winter, too frightened to use their heating. A record number of cold related deaths have been reported the last two years but again it seems this means nothing to these highly paid Utility Senior Executives who have made this unjustifiable decision. It seems they only care about increasing profits year on year. As for the Government regulator Ofgem; what a waste of time! The utility companies just ignore their feeble words as they know they are a 'toothless tiger' who have no real power. Just watch the other big five utility companies follow suit now; as they play follow my leader as in previous domestic electricity and gas price increases. The truth is there is no real competition, the whole privatisation of domestic electricity and gas has been one of the biggest scandals since day one; as they know they can do what they like when they like and no one can touch them. It's an absolute disgrace!

Never mind. The cunts will try to come out the same day to fix your broken boiler. It apparently turns your world upside down according to Timothy Spall. A bet he gets an extra 7% for the adverts now. What a shower of shite!

apparently with this 7% hike BG will make £4 per month per customer on duel fuel

I have just received an Email from EDF; who are 80% owned by the French Government, that they have no intention of increasing domestic prices just before the winter has British Gas have announced today. They have confirmed that current prices will be held until at least 01 March 2011. Vivre la France! At last some real competition in the domestic pricing of gas and electricity, instead of the usual 'follow my leader price fixing'. British Gas directors and executives won't be feeling so smug now, as they could lose at least a million customers over the coming weeks and months to their competitors. Lets hope the other companies like Npower follow EDFs good moral example and put people before profiteering! Felicitations EDF! Some good news at last for the poor and elderly...

WHAT HYPOCRITES BRITISH GAS ARE! Read their 'PR website' criticising Scottish & Southern for their PRICE HIKE just before the cold winter months; then two days later they do just the same except they increase both electricity and gas by 7% even though they nearly doubled their profits last winter! Talk about scoring an own goal!!! You couldn't make this up! I wonder how much their website editor got paid for writing such self righteous 'tosh' condemning their competition just a couple of days before they follow suit! What a company... they obviously keep their staff informed of future plans!! he! he! Shame on British Gas for their hypocrisy! What a joke 'their webpage' is condemning a competitor for their 'Price Hike' before winter; just two days before you announce your own!!... I didn't realise EDF were 80% owned by the french government, maybe I'll switch to them. Are EDL 80% owned by the british state?

[...] per cent, Scottish and Southern Energy customers are in for a 9.4% rise in their gas bill, while British Gas recently announced a 7% increase in gas and electricity [...]
