700 jobs to go with British Gas owner, Centrica

British Gas guide Ôjargon free' British Gas owner, Centrica, have lost a number of customers recently, and now, they're going to be handing out P45s as they shed nearly 700 members of staff.

The UK's largest energy supplier will be cutting 684 jobs at the British Gas Services unit with the proposed closure of its Oldbury office near Birmingham. People losing their jobs is never good news, even if the company they work for irritate us.

This is all part of Centrica's plan, which they announced some time last year, where they said they'd be looking to save costs by axing 6,000 jobs. British Gas have said that Oldbury employees are going to be having a 45-day consultation process to discuss the proposal.

Should the site get closed, then British Gas will attempt to redeploy the staff there. That is, of course, if British Gas have jobs for the staff to go to, and other factors.

"We must also respond to the changing needs of our customers, and they increasingly want to contact us online," said Claire Miles, British Gas managing director of customer operations, in a statement.
