Throw away your TV set - it's no use any more....

27 August 2012

Happy with your pin-sharp 1080p 3D HD telly are you? Grow up, it’s already out of date. A new format is coming, 8K, which will offer a resolution of 7,680 by 4,320 pixels – about the same as a 32 megapixel photo and 16 times as sharp as current top notch HD broadcasts.

Smart eh? It’s believed that the first commercially-available sets for under $10,000 will be in the shops in about 2025, so start saving up now.

As anonymous people who comment on websites are a perfect gauge of widespread public opinion, we’ll give the last word to someone named ‘aoxomoxoa’ who says on the BBC’s news site: “Surely there is more to life than television? Personally, I have not been in possession of such a sad instrument of torture and unhappiness since the 1990's and I do not intend to be imposed upon by said instrument of sadness ever again. When will people start to learn? Life is here and now, not on your fancy flat screen on the wall.”

It’s hard to argue with that, it really is.

I know it's all satire and to catch readers attention but it's a bit extreme to say 'it's already out of date' when referring to a format which won't be available to the public commercially for over 10 years from now. Anything for views I guess...

I suspect a new TV license will be needed, 10 times the cost of the normal one too.
  • PlatinumPlatypus
Why, do we have an HDTV license?
  • Sicknote
I don't pay for a TV license, haven't done for the past 7 years. A simple google and watch a few videos to know your rights you'll be able to join the rising masses.
  • PlatinumPlatypus
It's not your right to avoid paying for a TV license if you watch TV as it's broadcast. If you don't pay then you shouldn't watch live TV. Of course, a determined individual who isn't a complete berk would never be prosecuted but that's beside the point.

I wonder how "aoxomoxoa" has been able to express his opinion without the use of a 'sad instrument of torture and unhappiness'...
  • Wongaporkpies
some people think a sad instrument of torture and unhappiness is known as a wife !

"It’s hard to argue with that, it really is." Shame he wrote it while staring at a fancy screen on a desk.
