Commercial Break: Star Wars remixed in Adidas World Cup ad

Back to the World Cup ads then. You see, it looked as though it wasn’t going to get any better than Nike’s effort which launched last week, but Adidas had this snuck away in their locker.

What they’ve given us is David Beckham, Daft Punk, Snoop Dogg (wielding a lightsaber), Franz Beckenbauer, Noel Gallagher, Ian Brown and many more more, spliced into the iconic Cantina scene from Star Wars.

What has it got to do with the World Cup? Fuck all. Are we tickled by it? Just a bit. Does Franz Beckenbauer wear the eye patch with aplomb? Definitely.

Oh, and we’ve also got one with Peter Beardsley plugging a chair with a fridge in it…

good ad, but isn't it a bit dodgy saying "celebrate originality" when you have copied something else for the whole premise of the ad? Or did Alanis Morrisette write it?

Watch out, Peter Kay will be doing one next. He normally copies stuff from Adam Buxton.

At 1.00, I'm fairly sure that is Wayne Rooney. The link with football ... Galaxy. And the poster / stamp on the wall.

Don't knock Beardsley. He's done extremely well, considering he's got Down's Syndrome.

AND BEARDSLEY PULLS OUT A COLD.... powerade. Nice. Is he on the wagon?

Is Peter Beardsley able to drink unaided?

In Peter Beardsley's "International" Football on the speccy you could only play in the European Cup. No point really, just really annoyed me and until now I've never had the chance to tell anyone.

[...] fine, commercially untarnished name of Star Wars and George Lucas into hideous disrepute. Unlike a World Cup ad with Snopp Dogg (Snopp Dogg? Snoop Doog surely) and a gig on Coronation Street. What do you lot [...]
