East coast rail services running on the quiet
As you’ll have seen from the news, the east coast rail line is out of action today following ice-based power cable knack in the Huntingdon area. Passengers whose destination is up the east coast are advised to stay away from King’s Cross station until services resume.
Don’t all rush at once but if you’re stranded in London and desperately need to get back ‘oop North’ tonight, Grand Central are running a couple of services to Sunderland and Newcastle – that’s because their trains run on good old-fashioned diesel and have no need for power cables, ice-buggered or otherwise.
There’s more info at the Grand Central website and other destinations include Peterborough, Doncaster, York, and Darlington. Your correspondent is currently sitting on the 4.50pm service headed from Kings Cross to Sunderland and the train is about a third full.
An East Coast service to Edinburgh also departed at 4.30pm and there is an hourly north-bound service offered by them this evening if you’re desperate to get out of That London.
