Twitter: Now with annoying 6 second gifs

25 January 2013

Twitter users rejoice! You can now add six-second looping videos to your 140-character blurts thanks to some technology from Vine.

"Like Tweets, the brevity of videos on Vine (6 seconds or less) inspires creativity. Now that you can easily capture motion and sound, we look forward to seeing what you create," said Michael Sippey, VP of product at Twitter in the announcement.

So, in essence, many, many tweets will now have looping reaction gifs, which will be jarring for anyone with eyes or a cumbersome internet connection.

"Posts on Vine are about abbreviation – the shortened form of something larger," said Vine GM Dom Hofmann. "They're little windows into the people, settings, ideas and objects that make up your life. They're quirky, and we think that's part of what makes them so special."

The app is available now on Apple products only (no word on an Android release as yet).
