Playstation gaming coming to Android?

12 August 2010

PS buttonsGaming on the Android hasn't been great thus far in comparison with iPhone offerings. Unless of course, you count the MegaDrive and SNES emulators which have kept this writer off street corners and out of bother for the past couple of months.

However, that's all about to change as Sony Ericsson (who haven't even given us an Android phone as yet) is working on something that is very exciting indeed.

Basically, they're making a smartphone that is, the words of engadget, a cross between the Samsung Captivate and the PSP Go. Basically, that means you have a phone that has a D-Pad  and PSP buttons and shoulder buttons.

The phone is likely to carry PlayStation branding, and those who have seen it think that it looks pretty smart.

The games you'll be eventually able to buy will be, graphically-speaking, akin to PSP games, which is great news indeed. This means you can kill people on Call of Duty: Modern Warfare on your phone. This phone could be hitting the shelves as early as this October.

"Sony Ericsson not given us an Android phone yet? What are the X10, X10 Mini and X10 Mini-Pro then?" What he said... It has an air of the N-Gage surrounding it

Sony Ericcson haven't done a decent phone since the P800/900, it'll be a refreshing change if they can pull this together.

They possibly meant that Sony Ericsson haven't physically gifted an Android phone to the Bitterwallet staff as yet

Meh - gaming on a device that is primarily used as a phone? Come on! I remember when everyone wet themselves over the prospect of taking photos with their phones - didn't and still doesn't set the world alight or compare to many basic digital cameras (or even my Boots disposable, just without the 'you've fucked this photo up sticky label) You're talking here about a phone. Let's not skip that important fact - cursory function being communication. It didn't work with the N-Gage and to be honest I can't see things improving now no matter how far technology has moved on. While we're talking about Sony - 4OD is coming to the Playstation 3 soon!

This product excites the geek in me. it's sensible enough to function as a phone and childish enough to waste hours on GT while on the move. The massive concern i have over this is battery life. however, that said - I want it and I want it NOW!

Hang on, what's PSX4Droid? Yes, it's an emulator, but it plays PSX games. And I may as well join in the "What's the X10 if it isn't a droid?"
  • Meh
I hope they have the sense to ditch the Ericsson name while launching this product.

If the Go is anything to go by, Sony will charge too much for the games and it will fail. And I don't know if anyone's mentioned it yet, but the X10 runs on Android.
