Nexus 4 sells out in 30 minutes

13 November 2012

Google's Nexus 4 phone has sold out within 30 minutes of going on sale in the UK, with demand so high that Google's Play store crashed with congestion.

And just like that, all Nexus 4 handsets were no longer listed as 'buy now', but rather, 'notify me', which means they've all flown off the shelves! It seems the price of the device has wooed punters, with the 8GB going for £239 and 16GB selling for £279.

For your buck, the Nexus 4 has a 4.7in, 1280 x 768 display and runs on the Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 chip with an Android 4.2 Jelly Bean build, with wireless charging and NFC capabilities. It's a nifty little phone basically.

That said, there's no figures on how many handsets Google had in stock, so we can't say for sure whether they've sold masses of the phone, or whether they purposefully kept stock low for a 'SOLD OUT!' headline.

didn't apple apply for the patent to artificially create 'sold out' headlines? either way... I smell an apple scented law suit on the way...

What the hell is the point in wireless charging, you need to put it on a pad to charge making it more hassle than plugging in a cable and it's less efficient??

I got one!! @stringer bell - its so much easier than fannying about with cables - it's a convenience thing!!

I see 2 major problems with the Nexus 4: 1. It has no SD card support. 2. It has a fixed battery. I could live with 1, but 2 is the deal-killer as it will chew through battery life like there's no tomorrow.
