Microsoft successfully sued over Windows 10 update

Microsoft sued for Windows 10

There's been a lot of fuss over Windows 10. Reviews have been largely good, but many people have been annoyed by Microsoft's insistence that users download it.

Some people feel like they were 'tricked' into using it.

Of course, there are ways of stopping the automatic Windows 10 update, and you can see how to do that here.

However, one user in California has successfully sued Microsoft for $10,000 (which is around £7,500) after the update left their computer unusable.

Teri Goldstein said her computer, which previously ran on Windows 7, updated itself automatically to Windows 10 , without her permission. This left her unable to run her business, which of course, leaves her out of pocket.

Microsoft paid out $10,000 so they could drop the appeal, so they could save on legal fees.

If this is the precedent, and people can successfully argue that they've lost money or whatever, on the update, Microsoft could be paying out a lot of money to stop cases against them.

Good. It's about time these all-powerful companies were given a bloody nose. Too often software providers force changes and 'upgrades' on us when they are neither wanted nor needed.

I've seen how the upgrade system works and not once has it ever done it without consent.

It asks the user to schedule a time to install that needs to be confirmed by the user.  I don't see how it can be Microsofts fault if a user can't read properly.

Tne bigger issue is that computers are being left unusable after the update, whether the user gave consent or not to the update.

My friend upgraded her laptop to W10 after being prompted and now it's useless. I am having to scrub the HD and reinstall W7... a time consuming pain I could have done without!
