iPhone Siri has a thorough swear at child
There's been a few stories regarding Siri, the iPhone voice-activated system. In recent weeks, stories have focused on how much Apple hate the idea of abortions and morning-after pills and the like.
However, Siri has seemingly decided to go a bit Lenny Bruce, as Charlie Le Quesne from Coventry found out this week.
The were trying out the iPhone 4S at a Tesco store in Coventry when it told him: "Shut the f*** up, you ugly t***." That is, quite obviously, absolutely marvellous and very, very funny.
That outburst came after Siri was asked: "How many people are there in the world?"
His mother Kim said: "The phone was a demo version and was low enough on the shelf for Charlie to have a go with it. He asked it a simple question and we couldn't believe the filth it came out with.
"I thought I must be hearing things. So we asked again and the same four-letter stuff blared out. I asked for the manager and after staff heard it they agreed to unplug it. I couldn't see the funny side."
From mother Kim's 'I couldn't see the funny side' comment, we have to assume that the staff of Tesco initially laughed their socks off when they first heard it. And who can blame them? A swearing phone IS funny and besides, 12 year old lads say far worse in the playground.
Either way, Tesco staff informed her that someone must have tampered with the phone's set-up instructions, entering the phrase as the user's name.
Tesco said, after they'd finished laughing: "We have launched an investigation. The handset will be going back to Apple for diagnostic tests."
