Google's phone, the Nexus One, coming on January 5th?
The Googlephone/FunkPhone/Dog Food is coming, and sooner than you think too! First mooted a couple of weeks ago, it seems that Google’s smartphone effort (put together by HTC) will be unveiled as early as January 5th and will go by the name of Nexus One.
Selected journalists have been invited to a mysterious press conference on that date in Mountain View that is being billed as ‘an Android press gathering.’ We haven’t actually received our invitation yet, but the UK postal system is still a little bit sluggish following Christmas. And anyway, we’ve got a badminton court booked for the afternoon of the 5th and there’s no refund if we cancel it.
In addition to the press conference, T-Mobile’s intranet has announced to itself that the company will be locking arms with Google in the new year on a new Android phone, providing ”billing, coverage, features and rate plans, as we have previously stated. All troubleshooting and exchanges will be managed by Google and HTC. Launch is ‘early January.’” This ties in with earlier rumours that Google would be supplying the phone directly from themselves.
Some kind of geek has already got his grubby hands on a Nexus One and provides a review here. Helpfully, it seems he got a drunken tramp to film it all for him.
