Google to take Maps indoors

4 July 2012

Google PopeyeGoogle Maps is soon going to venturing inside so we can all now find our way around indoors. This addition will show detailed plans of the inside of buildings and will launch on Android devices in the UK from next Tuesday.

So, will it be venturing into your house? Not likely, as you really should know your arse from your elbow by now. The indoor addition is going to focus on buildings such as Harrods, the British Museum and the O2 Arena.

The app will also track your location and keep a history of where you've been, should you be furiously forgetful. Basically, Google think that this new function will help us all to find friends or destinations in a much easier way. Of course, private and government buildings aren't going to be included. Shame, as it'd be nice to wander virtually down the corridors of power at Westminster or the Pentagon.

Razia Ahamed, Google UK Geo Indoor Partnerships lead, said: "You’ll no longer need to feel clueless when you’re at the railway station because you’ll have all the answers in the palm of your hand.”
