Do Apple want to kill off the keyboard?
Tech giant Apple have filed a patent, and it looks like they want to do away with the keyboard as we know it. Basically, what they envision for the future, is a notebook which has a flat touchscreen surface, instead of a bunch of keys on springs. So it'll look like two tablets, or a Nintendo DS.
The application said: "The trackpad features built-in force sensors that allow you to click anywhere and haptic feedback that provides a responsive and uniform feel."
It looks like this, which isn't very exciting at present.
It seems like the bottom section has a perforated surface, which allows a user to create different formations of things on the display. Apple's patent says the "micro-perforations" on the casing could light up, to show you where the keys are that you want to press.
One good thing about this idea, is that when you're typing emails or whatever, you could have a keyboard as the display, but if you're gaming and don't need all those keys, then the display could show your controls.
Obviously, there's similar things in existence already, but as we all know, when Apple do something like this, absolutely everyone else jumps on it straight-away, so this could well be the future of laptops.
