BBC iPlayer now linking to other channels' programmes
The BBC have come over all generous by enhancing their iPlayer service so that you can now directly visit other on-demand telly content from ‘rival’ providers. The iPlayer interface now allows you to search through previous days’ listings on ITV and Channel 5, with feeds from Channel 4, SeeSaw.com and MSN Video Player said to be own their way.
The Beeb have said that: “We think BBC Online should serve as a hub to support other UK sites and want to double the traffic we send externally. Already the BBC News product is one of the top 5 sites driving referrals to UK newspapers, adding value to the UK online economy and our audiences: this partnership is a good example of how the BBC iPlayer can follow in those footsteps.”
Which is all good news and makes online telly watching far, far easier than before. Of course, the BBC will be hoping that iPlayer will now become your first port of call for all your online viewing and that their own traffic will increase dramatically as a result, but that’s the way of the world.
