Apple to launch small iPad in time for Christmas
Apple are to launch a smaller version of the wildly successful iPad before the year is out, putting them in direct competition with Amazon's Kindle Fire and Google’s Nexus 7 tablet. The new tablet will have a screen that’s 7 inches to 8 inches diagonally is likely to have the same number of pixels as the iPad 2. Crucially, it'll have a smaller price tag than other Apple products.
“It would be the competitors’ worst nightmare,” says Shaw Wu, an analyst at Sterne Agee and Leach. “The ball is in Apple’s court.”
Apple already have 61% of the tablet market and with the release of a cheaper tablet, they could clean up.
Trundling along behind everyone is Microsoft who are tottering into the world of tablets with the Surface, that will be sold when it releases Windows 8 in October.
Will Apple kill off all the competition or will this new, smaller iPad lack the pizazz that people expect with Apple devices? All we can hope for is a huge price war, allowing us to get cheaper technology.
