Virgin Atlantic crew discovers Facebook, forgets it's public

2 November 2008

A few clever crew members of Virgin Atlantic wrote a series of messages on Thee Facebook (if this was the BBC we'd say "a popular social networking site") where they referred to passengers as "chavs" and mentioned cockroaches on the planes as well as engine problems. Presumably the cockroaches were the resilient black creepies and not another slur on the passengers.

Virgin Atlantic has promptly had the posts deleted and according to a company statement the thirteen crew members involved will be "leaving the company".

This seems an opportune time for a Bitterwallet PSA. Hello, the internet is public. We know you slag us off behind that upper class curtain but please have the presence of mind to keep it to intra-cabin twittering.

YOU KNOW...IN THE LATE 80'S I WAS AN ANSETT GROUND CREW EMPLOYEE. WE WERE BOUYED BY A STORY (TOLD TO US AT A CONVENTION) ABOUT AN OLD LADY WHO FLEW BA RELIGIOUSLY (AND COMPLAINED INCESSANTLY) UNTIL ONE DAY AN EXEC CONFRONTED HER AND ASKED WHY SHE COMPLAINED. SHE SAID "MY BOY, I BELIEVE IN THIS AIRLINE, AND SO I VENT MY OPINION....BECAUSE I CARE...IF I DID NOT CARE, I WOULD FLY WITH ANYONE ELSE." ...AND THE TRUTH IS THAT THE EXEC BECAME A CEO...AND HE EMPLOYED THE ELDERLY LADY AS A CONSULTANT....AND THIS IS A TRUE STORY. TAKE HEED CORPORATIONS...AS GRIPE IS NOT AN ASSAULT...ITS A CHANCE TO CHANGE. PROACTIVE NOT REACTIVE...TIME TO GROW UP. p.s. Those that are perceived as heretics are actually those that can deliver the greatest revitalisation to a business because they care enough to complain. GROW!

After reading that 2 different airline staff have placed so called negative comments regarding customers I think it only fair that the general public do the same regarding the complete FUBAR's that are experienced with ALL the airline company's and their various divisions Also, regarding complaints being a caring and revitalising form of improvement, a bigger load of BS could not have been expressed: For every 1 improvement there are 1000 - 5000 regressions, and since when has complaints of any kind actually worked beyond being heard by an actual person with more than a 2 digit IQ and 2 dimensional character? We know whats wrong, they know whats wrong but at the end of the day no one wants to make any time effort energy or financial commitment to actually achieving anything of note little own improvement - the simplest of tasks are made more complex and dysfunctional than they need to be and the situation only gets worse and more exacerbated till in the end the complete and absolute stupidity as to its existance is anathema
