Twitter - you can now tweet longer
As predicted, Twitter have changed the way you tweet, allowing you to get more characters in your tweets.
Great news if you like ranting about things, and gifs and outbound links keep eating into your views.
"Say more about what's happening! Rolling out now," said a tweet Twitter themselves.
So, this isn't getting rid of the 140 character limit as such, but rather, tweaking it. Basically, the words of your message will still total 140, but external things like images, videos, and what-have-you, won't count toward the limit.
Is this the thing to fix the sticky wicket that Twitter is currently playing on?
Very unlikely, but it should make Twitter slightly easier to use for people, which is something.
Of course, one of the things that has hamstrung Twitter, is the amount of abuse/grief that is causing death by a thousand paper-cuts for many users of the social media platform.
Twitter also need to work out a way of appealing to people who aren't the nucleus of journalists, politicians, and celebrities, who don't interact with anyone but themselves anymore.
Either way, Twitter's share value continues to drop, and it loses ground to upstart Snapchat, which feels more fun and lively, compared to the stagnating Twitter.
That said, they've still got 313 million active users, which is not to be sniffed at. The company hasn't posted a profit yet though, which is pretty alarming.
If we were putting bets on anything, we think Google might buy Twitter before too long.
