Facebook messing around with their feed again
Facebook are tinkering again, again, looking at ways of changing the way your feed works. Off the top of our heads, we make that the 327,467th time Facebook have said they're messing around with something in the past month.
So what are they up to now? Well, they're looking at introducing multiple, topic-based feeds on the mobile app, in place of the regular News Feed.
"People have told us they'd like new options to see and have conversations about more stories on Facebook around specific topics they're interested in," said a Facebook spokesperson in an interview. "So we are testing feeds for people to view different stories from people and pages based on topic areas."
So, basically, it looks like no-one has really taken Facebook up on their Paper app, so they're merging it with the News Feed. Basically, Facebook are going to automatically sort posts from the people and pages you follow into different sections or feeds. As ever, those that pay for advertising with Facebook, will get preferential treatment.
There'll still be the usual News Feed, but there'll also be other feeds like 'Style', and 'Headlines'. Twitter are currently trying something similar with a thing called 'Moments', which no-one seems to be at all arsed about.
In 2016, Facebook are also going to push their 'Marketplace' feature that they've been beavering away at. The idea with that, is to get users to buy things through Facebook. You suspect they'll take a cut too.
"The experience will continue to evolve as we learn more about what's useful for people and effective for businesses," said the Facebook spokesperson. "We're still in the early stages of testing and will continue to update the experience as we learn more about what works best."
