Passport fees to increase over a third to pay for biometric data

10 November 2008

Not only is the UK government dead set on creating biometric passports and identity cards they are already indicating fees will increase to cover this disputed technology. Jacqui Smith, everyone's favourite Home Secretary and bane of Hackney, has announced the fees for new biometric passports will increase by a third to over £100 and the new identity cards will double to £60.

The biometric additions have already been criticised for being ineffective and expensive. This pre-launch fee hike seems to augur a future of government extortion based on mandatory ID and ever-increasing fees.
