    British Gas FTW!

Santander just lost £2.1billion - surely that makes this a terrible company???
  • tony
yes, but virgin always overcharge when people sign up for discounted offers.
  • Tim H.
Can't see how BT can be worse than RedSave...
  • Pizza_D_Action
Virgin are a mixed bag for me, when their service is running ok then its great for me and at a decent price too. However I have had that much trouble with over charging, rubbish CS call centres, "offers open to new customers only" and various other stuff that they had to get my vote.

Gotta be redsave for me, blatantly ripping us off with underhand monthly charges. Campaign starts here, redsave for gold medal!

Keep in mind that Santander own Abbey, Alliance & Leicester and Bradford & Bingley. Like most companies they have a large proportion of customer service advisors in India. They were also recently in the news for announcing that they will cut 1900 jobs.

The worst company by far has to be THREE. Their staff are rude and very arrogant, and these are the ones sitting in the Head Office in the UK. So disgraceful infact, that even after cancelling my contract with them over 3 years ago they still added a 'charge' to my account and then sent it to debt collectors!! Had to take them to Teleco Regulator and Watchdog before they would even listen to me and cancel the 'charge'!

BT may be in with a shout to win worst company in Britain in my humble opinion. Some things that make me angry. £125 connection charge for new households Extortionate amount for uncapped broadband (£24.99 per month i'm paying and only getting 3 meg download speed) My contract is up soon thank god.
  • Jimbo
Oops, didnt read it properly and thought I was voting for Setanta instead of Santander. And how on earth is Redsave trailing to BT?????
  • James A.
@ Steve Mac I concur BT are terrible I have just switched to Sky and cannot recommend their broadband enough for £10 a month you get 8-16mb unlimited.
  • da_killer
i think the companies are fighting to be the worst are not paired properly, you cant compare two companies, e.g. ryan air and vodafone, they are two complete different markets one is airline and another is phone service provider. you CAN vote if you are judging the compnay's reputation on customer services but asfar as companies being better and worst has to be paired properly. perfect examples would be to pair Tmobile with three mobile, Sky to virgin media, tesco to sainburys, etc... get what i mean???

[...] Here’s a couple of contrasting comments on Comet from you guys in relation to to the recent Worst UK Company of 2008 Contest: MV: I can’t believe Comet didn’t make the last 32. They have the worst after sale [...]
  • Samba123
Agreed - no contest here - Redsave are far worse than BT so can't understand the voting unless people haven't heard of Redsave?
  • Edward C.
Another vote for '3' here. Rude staff at their call centre in India. Completely inflexible. Accused me of losing them money (!). Cant wait until my contract runs out. If anyone has a problem with '3' take it to the Head Office in Scotland. Got my issue resolved straight away (by a gentleman who admitted that the call centre was 'awful')

    > Steve Mac > £125 connection charge for new households Take a look on moneysavingexpert, you can get connection charge for less than £30

I dont have any problems with BT at all and I think that they have been matched unfairly. A huge amount of the population will have had something to do with BT since most chances they will provide their phone service. However with redsave only a small amount will have any dealings with them. BT will go through but only because they have been matched with Redsave
  • BigDan
And another vote for ‘3′ here. Useless bunch of cnuts whose only redeeming feature is surely to have been the inspiration for fonejacker's Upgrade Regrade Downgrade Ring Dings sketch. Burn in hell, 3.
  • Mike
Okay the winner of this compitition, as any fule kno, is DEFINATELY PayPal/eBay (Not sure why theyre seperate on here as ones a subsiduary of the other). Any large volume seller knows PayPal are awful. At pretty much everything. So are eBay. VM get my huge thumbs up - they way way way undercharged us for 2 years they only realised 5 months ago and never billed us what we technically owed them!
  • Rich
Redsave should win this award for their underhand dealings and "membership scheme" which many people don't notice coming off their credit cards to the tune of £20 a month. However, their small size (relatively speaking) compared to BT means many more angry customers will vote for BT. What a shame.
  • Sal
BT is currently involved with a Spyware company called Phorm. They are trying to market a 'service' called 'Webwise', which is really ISP-level spyware which uses deep packet inspect to build up a profile on customer's browsing habits in order to intercept their communication and send them targeted ads. You can find out about the dodgy history of Phorm on Wikipedia. BT conducted covert trials in 2006 and 2007 where it spied on customer's communication without their knowledge or consent. Legal prosecution is potentially in the pipeline. BT gets my vote for worst company for the total and utter contempt and disregard that BT holds for its customers and their privacy. DON'T USE BT! USE AN ISP WHICH RESPECTS YOUR PRIVACY!

    > Okay the winner of this compitition, as any fule kno, is DEFINATELY PayPal/eBay (Not sure why theyre seperate on here as ones a subsiduary of the other). It's a shame they are on the same side, otherwise there could have been a PayPal vs eBay showdown in the final.
  • Paul
I say BT cos of the spying on their customers in 2006 + 2007 without asking us. Wiretapping is illegal but they seem to have got away with it, up to now anyway. 19500 people have signed a Downing Street Website Petition against it, but that did not stop them doing another trial this year... shady and unpleasant, but then... what would you expect if they are partnered with an ex adware company who's software was classified as bad by respected anti virus teams like f-secure and Symantec? Shame on you BT.
  • Kitty
BT all the way they refuse to reply to questions, ban customers from forums for mentioning the new product they plant to rol out intercepting your communication to websites. Then they plan to use the website you visit copyright content to sell to advertisers. Using kit supplied byt he ex 121media who are well known for the rootkit peopleonpage.. Nice marriage made in hell both planning on controlling what you can do with your internet you already pay for... Lied about trials until an insider leaked the proof, totally untrustworthy now under the present managment.
  • dog
well it has to be BT and VIRGIN. both get a vote for the issue phorm. hum you pay them for a connection so they can then look at web pages you vist and target adverts at you. two lots of revenu for them and they still provide you with a rubish bropadband network. bt will win over all as even if your with a diffrent isp your most likely on the ip stream product so have to deal with bt if you have a line problem. hum for them to check your line for a problem they scare you with 140 quid charge if the faults on your side of the master socket. trading standars where are you. shawly they have to give you a qoute and do some actual work for the money not say o the problems your fault so you have to fix it but still give me 140 quid for turning up late any way. yeah thats BTw on not bt retail but you have just put bt on this vote so the are one company with that wording.

Santander own Abbey and they are OK, and very helpful. The other day they upgraded their banking software and to make sure I could get in they sent me an email telling me they needed my help to finish the update to their systems. I logged into the web page they sent me and gave them all my personal details and pin to my account. All that and I didn't have to sign up for on-line banking in the first place. With such a pro-active service how can anyone complain?
  • Ripped o.
REDSAVE!! They will nominate themselves AGAIN soon enough by sending a threatening solicitors letter to the owners of this site demanding the negative comments here are removed. VOTE REDSAVE, GOOGLE THEM IF YOU HAVEN'T HEARD OF THEM.
  • Dr. A.
I voted Redsave, having got my claim paid in full the day before the court hearing. Sadly many more people have heard of BT than Redsave, so even if only 1% of BT's customers vote for them, they will beat Redsave easily. It's not a fair match.
  • Max W.
It might not be a fair match - BT have many millions of customers and Redsave are just a small company - so how come the voting is so close? I will tell you why, Redsave have an interesting approach to a monthly subscription. When you buy something at the so called Redsave Pass price, you automatically sign up for a £19.95 monthly subscription. The first thing you know about it is when you check your statement and see a mysterious amount taken out. This is indeed in the Terms and Conditions - about three quarters of the way down. The Terms and Conditions are considerably longer than a much bigger internet trading company that sells a much wider variety of product - that is Amazon. And then the fun begins!!! It appears that there has been a number of court cases brought by Redsave against people who complain in forums - though according to some press statements, these have been discontinued by Redsave. It seems also that a number of former customers have sued Redsave and either Redsave lost the cases or the cases were settled out of court. In terms of % of disappointed customers, Redsave will win this hands down - and they would deserve it. Just Google Redsave and you will see what I mean. If you are reading this Redsave - may your New Year not be happy and prosperous and remember, you reap what you sow.
  • Pete
BT. For spying on thousands of its customers and the private communications between them and the sites they used. Twice, even three times. For mass copyright abuse. And industrial espionage on a truly epic scale. If you're a BT customers, and you value privacy/security/data integrity, you need to find a new ISP urgently.
  • nick
This company has literally ripped of 1'000s of people by charging your account a bogus subscription after they sell you something cheap. They have slammed by the trading standards, ASA and various newspapers (just google them !) and have lost a number of small claims cases with the a group action against them in progress. Companies like this are worse than muggers.
  • Steph
well what can i say about redsave and bt. with nick on this one. they are worse than muggers. Also what max walker and rebecca walker say - you reap what you sow...... think they have hit the nail on the head.
  • Matt
Bt are utter crap. Can't wait to switch to something better. So slow. So fucking annoying. I hope they go bankrupt.
  • a c.
what more can i say. yet another victim of the redsave rip off. this man doesnt give a flying shite about you aslong as hes sailing his yacht pavlova 3 in the yacht races he enters with your money.hes sailing on the crest of a wave...nothing can stop his moneymaking machine. let me quote him on his own words. you reap what you sow. well heres another one for him.... what a tangled web you do weave, when at first you do decieve.
