Snakes on a plane! Pet Airways prepares to land in the US
This is a little late for April 1st, and there's a very good reason for that - it's real:
Proving that America is still stupid, Pet Airways takes off in July, upgrading your cherished companions from the cargo hold to the main cabin and flying between New York, Washington, Chicago, Denver and Los Angeles.
The seats and overhead bins have been removed from a Beech 1900 passenger plane - pets will be placed in their normal private pet carriers and then locked into a customised restraint system. Up to 50 cats or dogs can board every flight (they don't fly with their owners), and a pet stewardess will see to their every need and make sure they have use of the amenities throughout.
Cats and dogs are the only pets allowed on board at the launch of the service, but there are plans to admit reptiles and birds in the coming months. Will anybody pay for this service? During a recession? Of course they will. It's America.
