Shop and pub cheekily throws gauntlet down to Olympics

24 July 2012

There's been a number of cases throughout history, where the Olympics have gone after anyone using their name in marketing, without permission. The only people allowed to benefit from the Olympics are the designated sponsors.

However, one cheeky menswear shop has decided to goad the Games with this window display.

sue this olympics

From a distance, it looks like a normal Olympics set-up, but on closer inspection it has nothing to do with the Olympics at all. Nope. Nothing.

What tremendous, peevish work!

Meanwhile, this pub in Kentish Town (as spotted by @TheTilbury) has been dangerously flirting with the LOCOG rulebook...

the use of the words 'The Games' is also prohibited, so is... London Summer London Games London 2012 2012 (during the period) Gold / Silver / Bronze ...amongst others.

It is illegal to use the phrases to make money. So don't do that. It's pretty stupid. I guess I can have a giant sign saying Assembly House offers everyone free food and drink today and stand outside the pub? After all it's just a name, why wouldn't they like that? So what if it's their name?

Erm Kevin Gold isn't a name. Gold is a metal, London is a place and 2012 is a year.

Seriously.... the number 2012 is banned if it's used for commercial purposes? These are dark times my friends. Quite literally... it's night-time

What about 20:12 on railway timetables?

I like the valuable information you provide to your articles. I'll bookmark your blog and take a look at again here regularly. I am reasonably certain I'll be told lots of new stuff proper right here! Best of luck for the following!

It's so ridiculous how hard the LOCOG are going in for this. Surely we pay taxes to hold the games here, and it impacts on everyones travel, so we take all the shit bits, then they charge mad prices for tickets and we can't even stick up an ad in our windows to make some of that money back. Insane
