Retail Deathwatch: Allied Carpets no more

14 August 2009

Another famous name has left the retail universe, as the administrators in charge of Allied Carpets have announced the closure of 142 stores, with the loss of 850 jobs.

Last month, 51 stores were sold off but the administrators have been unable to save what was left of what was once a carpet and flooring giant in the UK.

We’ll pay tribute by showing you this none-more-typical 1979 Allied Carpets sale advert, and Mulligan and O’Hare’s scathing attack on one of the company’s employees (it’s just before the 2:00 mark)

RIP Allied.
