Nostalgic Fellows ain't what they used to be...

7 November 2011

It’s okay everyone – political correctness has won and racism is over now, but there’s no reason to discard ALL of its worst excesses. Such as the ‘golliwog’ (as it used to be shamefully called). You’ll be relieved to learn that he’s still around but has been subtly rebranded.

Meet the ‘Nostalgic Fellow’!

My sister had a golliwog when we were growing up. It never occurred to us that is was supposed to be a person who was black. Having grown up with Enid Blyton books it was more along the lines of a leprechaun or some other slightly supernatural prankster character. The PC brigade killed that part of the youthful innocence we had.

It is clearly not meant to be a black person, since there are no gold teeth or guns.
