New jailbreak for iPhone, iPod Touch and iPad

3 May 2010

There hasn't been an untethered jailbreak for the iPhone since early 1.x versions (which Apple shut down quickly) but the so-called Spirit jailbreak has now been released which will let you bust open anything running versions 3.1.2, 3.1.3, or 3.2. Note this isn't a carrier unlock, it's a jailbreak which means you can access the root of your device and run Cydia apps etc.

Make sure you do an iTunes backup and then back up your SHSH blob - this basically means that you will save your current firmware state so that you can always roll it back if needed. There's a few ways to do this but one of the most popular is Firmware Umbrella - [iClarified Guide].

You can grab the Spirit app to get started here: Jailbreakalicious

Yeah. what is this about? If we already jailbreak the phones, why would we check bitterwallet about it?

If you already jailbreak then you probably read this elsewhere. However it's the first really simple jailbreak for a long time so people who didn't try jailbreaking before have an easy option now to try it out.

blackra1n was always simple too but this new jailbreak brings untethered to all devices

@ LB & Alan There's no pleasing some people. Good job BW :)

Agreed, this is the first untethered jailbreak that anybody who has bought their device in the last four/five or so months is able to do. Hopefully theres a way to sim unlock it as well through this, haven't read into it yet though.

Brilliant article! Thanks for sharing the information. I have a question. Do you have any updated on iOS 4.2.1 jailbreak for Widows only?
