MyVoucherCodes, why can't I quit you? Wait, when did I start?
We've had a couple of emails from avid Bitterwallet readers about MyVoucherCodes.co.uk, which tally with our own experiences of the company.
Obviously we're associated with HotUKDeals, who may be considered a competitor of MyVoucherCodes, so we'll get that out of the way here. The issue for avid readers Bill and Mark, and for ourselves, is that we're seemingly unable to unsubscribe from the MyVoucherCodes.co.uk newsletter. Despite clicking on the link last week, all three of us have received the newsletter today.
Last week, clicking the unsubscribe link took us to a dedicated page on the website:
This week, the link is redirecting to the site's homepage, with no option to unsubscribe. The source code involves Silverpop, the email delivery software; that the link is redirecting to the homepage this week suggests there's an issue with the code and users aren't being unsubscribed. That said, when the code sent users to the unsubscribe page last week, it didn't work then, either.
Wait, when did we all subscribed to the MyVoucherCodes newsletter? That's right, none of us did!
We actually signed up to Groupola, which is owned by Markco Media company - you'll remember the controversial iPhone4 competition and Groupola's fake reviews on Facebook. Markco also owns MyVoucherCodes; all the Groupola subscribers have been dumped onto the MyVoucherCodes mailing list, as the first newsletter informed us:
"To help you save money on all your shopping, both online and in the shops, every day, we are very pleased to let you know that you that you will now be receiving the MyVoucherCodes.co.uk weekly Savvy Saver newsletter."
So we're now receiving a newsletter we didn't ask for, and there's no way for us to stop it. Cheers, MyVoucherCodes!
