It's like Google Maps versus Sesame Street...
The highly improbably-named Rhett Dashwood is a creative-type lounging about in sunny Melbourne (which sort of explains the name). Between last October and last month, Dashwood went on a virtual expedition, hunting through the backwaters of Google Maps to discover the alphabet.
Although he limited himself to the Australian state of Victoria (which in all honesty is still a huge tract of land) he found the whole alphabet built out of marinas, submerged in swamps and carved in hillsides:
It's just one of the many activities you can get involved in at the Google Earth Community - you'll be hunting down statues or curious Google Street View shots before you know it. But only if you're really stuck for something to do this evening.
