iPhone 'Sex': Google Voice Search Doesn't Understand British Accents

20 November 2008

http://img403.imageshack.us/img403/9380/153871googlevoicesearchzi4.jpgA new iPhone Google voice search tool has got a minor flaw- it doesn’t seem to understand British accents.

British people have reported getting all kinds of weird results using the search tool, with the word “iPhone” being mistranslated to “Einstein”, “kitchen sink”, and even “sex”.

According to the Google website, the new voice search system "is currently available only in U.S. English".

UK iPhone users have been quite diligent in leaving comments on the application’s website, asking Google to revamp the software.  Let's make Stephen Hawking happy.

There's more than one Stephen Hawking? Quick let the academic world know immediately.

Perhaps Vince should read Eats, Shoots and Leaves by Lynne Truss.

Ha! My first thought was 'has he died'?? Always thought Hawking was with an 's'. Not sure why! Corrected now. Thanks!

I love Google Voice. There SMS feature truly got me into it. I am able to send out free text messages to Bangladesh, India, and USA. It saves me good money on my texting program from Verizon Wireless because I can use that to text. I think Google always does a very job of giving customers what they want and need. I have heard in the future they are incorporating Voice with the Android. Plus they bought a new VoIP company which they will mix with the other two to give some outstanding features. I need to get myself an Androind now haha.
