Ericsson to Release 20 Megapixel Cameras by 2012

http://img205.imageshack.us/img205/8002/20mpsonyericssonphones2vq9.jpg#20 megapixel cameras in cell phones may sound overkill, but Ericsson revealed in a press conference earlier this week that plans to bring such 'advanced wireless innovation' to the marketplace are due for 2012, so that we can all snap some prettier pictures of the very artistic Olympics logo.

The company’s vision includes 12 to 20 megapixel camera phones capable of shooting HD video and web browsing and downloads at 100Mbps+ - all with a 1GHz processor. While these features sounds a bit over the top, Tech authority Mobile Computing makes an interesting case:

“20mp is useless without decent optics and HD video can look worse than standard def if it's full of noise and the frame rate can't keep up. Faster download speeds and processors will always be welcome but there's a danger of mobiles simply going the way of Microsoft and Sony with the Xbox 360 and PS3.”

Next thing you know, we'll be having Wii mobiles and flying iPhones saucers.
