Deathwatch: 39 Oddbins stores to close

8 March 2011

retaildeathwatch At the weekend, we told you about the ongoing troubles of high street off licence chain Oddbins, and they have now announced that 39 of their stores are to close as they aim to stay afloat in the choppy waters of the booze retail ocean.

The closures will mean the decimation of almost a third of their stores, leaving them with only 89 stores – a decade ago they had 250. It’s all looking very similar to the collapse of Oddbins’ former off licence rival Thresher, who gradually shrunk their offering until disappearing altogether.

Oddbins have said that the closures are part of a strategic review that will be concluded later in the week – staff will be hoping that it doesn’t include further store closures.
