Commercial Break: Who do you think you're diddling Mr Hitler?
We’re really not sure what to make of this one. It’s a German anti-AIDS ad which starts off as an average piece of mid-European soft porn, the kind you’d expect to see on TV on the continent at 4.10pm in between a gardening show and the kids’ hour.
So far, so saucy. Until the true identity of the male protagonist is revealed – uh oh everyone, it’s that star of hundreds of spoof Downfall clips, Adolf Hitler. The message is that, like Hitler, AIDS is a mass murderer, and the accompanying poster campaign also stars Saddam Hussein and Joseph Stalin.
The organisers of World AIDS Day have, perhaps wisely, distanced themselves from the ads, in the same way that any right-thinking woman would distance herself from partaking in a bout of the yankee-doodle with the most hated man of the 20th or any other century, irrespective of whether he was carrying the deadly sex plague or not.
Oh, and in case the description didn’t convey it enough, it’s very Not Suitable For Work.
