Commercial Break: The Moonwalking Hula Hoop Michael Jackson! Not.

Hula Hoops have launched a major new ad campaign based around the exciting pastime of making finger puppets with the circular snacks. Hey, we all do it don’t we? (‘No we fucking well don’t actually’ – everyone)

In keeping with this era of crowd-sourcing (ie; using the gormless willing public to provide free entertainment) there’ll also be some kind of competition where you get to make your own Hula Hoop puppet film, upload it somewhere and hopefully win some kind of prize. Hoop-la! Hula Hoop-la!

We immediately ran down to the shop, bought a packet and made a short film of the moonwalking Hula Hoop Michael Jackson, but we’re not showing it to you lot. We’ll be selling it on eBay for £9.99 a pop thank you very much.

Anyhoo, the new ads are utter shite so here’s the dubious 1980s Hula Hoops ad starring the mighty Cab Calloway and some seriously iffy racial stereotypes instead. Almost makes you ache for a glass of Kia-Ora doesn’t it?

    Cab Calloway rocks.

I loved this ad at the time... Now I'm sure it wouldn't pass a lot of scrutiny from the ASA

Did anybody see that light in the sky at 23.42, heading north? Massive speed, no noise - strange!

@pauski It was probably a ryanair plane, they switch the engines off now and then to save fuel.

I don't think you should knock these adverts. If more people could be persuaded to play with snacks instead of eating them it might help the obesity crisis :)
