Commercial Break: Stain-covered trailers and cheap, life-threatening haircuts
Over in the US, Rhett & Link are ploughing ahead with their efforts to make local commercials look better for less outlay.
Here’s the duo’s two newest ads, which they provide free of charge thanks to a sponsorship tie-in. In the first, the grim world of second hand mobile home sales is exposed for all to see. “There are stains,” explains the salesman, who also recounts the time a bouncer hit him in the face five times with a wrench.
Things are jollier at the Salt Lake Community College Barbering and Cosmetology School. The plucky youngsters there are novices but they’ll cut your hair for only two dollars. Any kind of hairdo – as long as it’s one that they’ve already learned.
As one of the students explains: “I won’t mess up… and even if I do, it’s only two dollars.” Rather more worrying is the shot of a cut-throat-razor face-shaving with the caption ‘an unlicensed salon’ at the bottom of the screen.
At that price, what have you got to lose? Apart from a few litres of blood straight out of your jugular of course…
