Commercial Break: Don't do drugs kids - even though this ad makes it look like loads of fun
On this day in 1966, LSD was criminalised in the United States. The Yanks had obviously noted that plucky little England had just won the World Cup and wondered what they could do to help them prise the trophy out of our grasp.
The answer was clear – ban acid. Some time afterwards, crack animation house Hannah Barbera were deployed to create this anti-drugs public service announcement (crack?). In it, a youngster smokes hard on an LSD pot fag, and his brain immediately turns into nightmares. His footballing career is clearly over.
It didn’t work – the Americans are still popping pills and reefing away on doobies like they're Smarties and they STILL haven’t lifted the World Cup to this day. Maybe they should adopt out National Health Service in an attempt to be more great like us. Or take even more drugs.
Fast forward to 2009, and The Onion bring us this... (NSFW)
