CDiscount about to get a whole lot bigger in the UK

30 March 2009

If you’re a regular on HotUKDeals, you’ll know that one of the most frequently occurring names that crops up as a purveyor of bargains is CDiscount. Now it looks like they’re about to get a hell of a lot bigger, with a full-on UK launch due next month.

They’re part of the French retail giants Casino Group, who have 10,000 stores worldwide and in France, the long-established CDiscount is just behind Amazon in the rankings. It seems as though they’ve been dipping their Gallic toe into the UK online retail market over the past few months gearing up for an imminent full assault.

At the moment in the UK, they’re specialising in hi-tech, homewares and fashion, but take a quick peek at their French site and you’ll see that there’s a whole lot more to come from CDiscount, with the likes of Tesco, Amazon and DSGi’s brands in their sights. Childrenswear, toys, gardening and health and beauty products are among the ranges they'll be adding as the next 12 months sees rapid expansion.

So, what impressions have you had of CDiscount in the UK so far? Maybe you’ve used their French site in the past? What do you make of their 0% interest three-month payment plan for goods over £75? Will their arrival see a major sea change in online retail in the UK? Will Ken and Deirdre survive Ken’s latest infidelity or is it curtains for Corrie’s veteran couple? What REALLY happened to Jesus after the resurrection? Speak to us damn you.

I purchased a netbook using their 3 month interest free deal. Delivery was quick, and product was as advertised. I would buy from them again!

Jesus died late Friday afternoon and was hastily put in a nearby hole/cave as sunset was rapdily approaching and hence the Sabbath on which no work could be carried out. On Saturday evening - the end of the Sabbath - the work could begin again and so the body was moved to its final secret? resting place, cleaned, dressed and buried properly - some say at least a couple of miles from site of the place of death. It seems not everyone was aware of this, so when the Sunday morning vistors arrived at the original hole/cave ther got a shock, and the rest, they say, is history... (You asked!)

Did this happen on friday past?? how come it wasnt on the news? Everyday i get the impression that i might have friends as there is a new email in my Inbox. Unfortunately it is an email from Cdiscount informing me of their latest discounts, i have tried on numerous occasions to stop them sending these but to no avail. So i hate Cdiscount because of this.

I've used them four or five times and have no complaints so far :)

I like baby Babybells - little baby cheeses.

Hold on now, you asked "What REALLY happened to Jesus after the resurrection?" and then David tells you what the resurrection is and then events leading up to it, did I miss something or is he simply an idiot?

I've used them before and they're seriously cheap. although at the moment they only have a fairly limited range. Hopefully this will change if they cross the channel properly.

I'm very tempted to use them. They did just come out of thin air for me. All of a sudden HUKD was full of CDiscount deals. I didn't realise they are a part of a much bigger group (albeit a French eh-chew group ) I do like that you can split payments up with 0% and yep if it makes Dicons lower it's prices, I'm all for it.

@Bob: Think I was stating that perhaps there was no ressurection at all, therefore nothing could happen "after" as it didn't occur in the first place ;-)

They are ok at the moment. Whether I use them again when they become bigger depends on how they behave. If they grow and still give decent prices and service, then I will use them. If they become another amazon/tesco/DSGi, then they will not be that high up my list of stores.

I've ordered about 4 things from them & never had any problems, used the 0% over 3 months thing once which went very smoothly & is a big plus point for thier site - I'm surprised a lot of other retailers arn't offering this to be honest.

I like them a lot! Good prices, good quidco amounts and lots of genuine offers where you actually see the stuff you saw yesterday @ £100 selling for £80 in their 6hour 20% off sale etc. Not like most retailers where the bargin items are random things they are trying to shift etc / are brought in specially to be sold at a discount cos they are crap. Only issue is that they seem to use HDNL - one of the worst delivery companies ever, lol.

Jesus Christ wasn't killed and is yet to return. .

If he wasn't killed Yas88, then how can he "return"? Has he had a gap year in Thailand?

I expect the prices to rise after the UK launch...

Theyre ok until you need to contact them or experience any problems. Then you'll wish you didn't. Their customer service is poor. Emails take ages to get replied to (when they even bother to reply). Their telephone support team cant actually offer much support and will typically say "sorry I cant help you with that, can i get a manger to call you back?..." of course, the manager in question NEVER, EVER calls back. Incase you didnt get that, its important to understand: THEIR MANAGER(s) WILL NEVER CALL YOU BACK DESPITE MULTIPLE PROMISES TO DO SO. If you're buying something simple like clothing, go for it and enjoy the bargains. If you want aftersales service, take your money far far away from cdiscount, or cross your fingers and blindly hope for the best.

Just want to let everyone know my bitter experience from CDiscount. On 20th March I've order a samsung netbook nc10 from them which was at stock at the time. 5days past way without confirmation of shipment. when I send an e-mail they replied the product is out of stock. At the time of writing this mail the product is still available to buy on their website.which is 6th day after the order is placed. Took the money from my card at 20th. If they don't have the product then why charge money first ? Got my money back in 6days. I have asked for their explanation by my registered account & from my e-mail as well. 48 hour after the complain no feedback came from them. Was asked by someone from hotukdeals forum to call them. So, I called them , the person said he gonna call me back, which call never came. At 30th they have send me a mail that the product is shipped to me although they have canceled my order at 24th & I never re-ordered. 1st April I've received order & now in way to return it. My view is they are trying to be good on customer service but need to be quick on any online reply. Hope this will bring out more CDiscount customer who are not satisfied with their service.

Hi, I've bought a Toshiba 32" LCD TV that gave me £60 credit that I spent in turn on a Pentax OPTIO A40 digital camera. Nothing wrong with either, great value, but the camera should have netted a further £20 credit by 14/05/09. Nothing on my account yet. Given some of the comments above a little worried now as the theme seems to be if all OK then no problems but if any glitch then big problems. Will contact them if no credit in the next few days. BTW any geographical telephone number known for them? The only one given in saynoto0870.com doesn't work.
