BBC sites are down

31 December 2015

BBC_iPlayer_Radio_logo If you've been trying to watch something on iPlayer today, or read anything on a BBC website, you probably can't, as the whole thing seems to be down.

Now, no-one knows why this has happened, but there's rumours of a DDoS (Distributed Denial of Service) attack. If you don't know what that is, but don't want the technical lowdown, it is basically when a bunch of people set their systems in motion to flood the bandwidth of a site, so no-one can use it.

BBC iPlayer's Twitter account said this morning: "Hi, we’re experiencing some technical issues at the moment, which we hope to resolve soon. Sorry for the inconvenience."

Of course, the Beeb have got their engineers working on it, so it might intermittently work for some people, but basically, it isn't really working yet.

The folks at IsItDownRightNow confirm that everyone is having problems with Auntie Beeb.

Obviously the Beeb's tech staff are far too busy pissing our licence fee receipts down the bogs of the local pub. They are practicing for the total service outage scheduled for later this new year's eve cos we're all sick off seeing the same old outside broadcast of a bunch of Thames-side revellers bringing in the new year with a couple of ASDAs fireworks above Big Bellend.
