Argos Might Have Charged You Extra
If you bought something from Argos on October 24 with your credit or debit card, you'd better check your bank statement now if you haven't yet received a refund from Argos.
The retailer had a computer error last month, affecting 190,000 UK consumers who paid via debit and visa cards, charging them twice for goods purchased on that day.
An Argos spokeswoman confirmed the error had taken place, but that the retailer took steps to correct the mistake as soon as it came to light:
"Argos would like to apologise to any customer who was double charged when making a purchase in one of our UK stores on Friday, 24 October. This was due to a system issue with purchases made by credit or debit card. Steps were put in place to rectify the error and a correction was run to ensure any affected customers had the duplicate charge refunded."
The spokeswoman could not confirm the exact cost of the error but said it amounted to 'several millions of pounds'. The mistake also coincided with the day when Argos announced that their sales figures are down 9% from last year.
