1.2m VW vehicles affected in UK emissions scandal
The Volkswagen emissions hoohaa won't be going away any time soon, and we suspect someone might go to prison for it. However, more important for most Bitterwallet readers, is how many cars are affected by all this in the UK.
Well, VW have announced that nearly 1.2 million of its vehicles sold in Britain are fitted with the dodgy software which has caused all this nonsense. This means there's likely to be a big recall for those of you who drive diesel-powered cars with the VW brand, Audi, Seat and Skoda, and some VW commercial vehicles.
The company will be giving vehicle identification to retailers over the next few days, and then, Volkswagen will start getting in touch with customers. Of course, your vehicles are still safe to drive and you don't need to do anything about it yet - this is VW's mess, not yours.
VW will be presenting their plans to fix this mess to regulators some time next month.
Of course, you'll know that worldwide, 11 million vehicles are affected, and if you don't see what the fuss is all about, then the long and short of it is this - Volkswagen have been lying to everyone and, not only that, polluting everything and everyone's lungs in the process. Heads have already started to roll because of it.
Volkswagen's shares have fallen by nearly 40% since the scandal broke, and they're facing legal action from loads of countries around the world, in what stands to be the biggest class action lawsuit in history.
