Vodafone first to wave the BlackBerry Torch in our faces

4 August 2010

bberytorch_610_w300 Vodafone have become the first UK mobile network to announce that they’ll be offering the new Torch, BlackBerry’s forthcoming attempt to stop themselves being muscled out of the smartphone market by Android and Apple devices.

The Torch will be hit the shops in the UK “in the coming weeks” according to a BlackBerry spokesdude and the phone will the first to feature BlackBerry 6 OS. More specs include 3.2-inch 480x360 touch-based screen, a slide-out keyboard, feathers in the evening, 512 MB RAM, 4 GB storage and a MicroSD card slot, a sneezing clown ringtone, as well as 802.11 b/g/n wireless networking, Bluetooth, and a 5 megapixel camera with flash. We threw a couple of made-up bits of stuff in there just to see if you were paying attention.

Vodafone announced they’ll be carrying the Torch via a tweet, such is the modern way of things, although pricing is still to be confirmed. Other providers are sure to join the throng sooner rather than later.

"3.2-inch 480×360..." Pah - I would have thought the iPhone4 would have pushed companies to make their screens similar

The correct spelling is faeces. As to the name - what bollocks. Make it look like Touch, just one letter out, but end with something completely different. It's a torch, so does it have a really bright screen to use to see your way in the dark?

Maybe Vodafone will do what they've just done with the Desire, and con you into downloading crappy apps and links to dating sites. Bunch of wankers.

LOL, 480×360 screen! You could at least make your made-up bits vaguely believable. I do like the sound of the sneezing clown ringtone though.
