Sky to offer their own mobile contracts

29 January 2015

sky There's been a number of rumours floating around and now, here we are - Sky are going into mobile contracts.

The TV Godzilla has buddied up with Telefonica - who just happen to own the O2 network - so they can offer mobile phone deals under their own Sky branding.

Of course, Sky already offering broadband and home phone packages (and TV packages, obviously), this is another play for Sky to try and run the entire universe all by itself.

So what's the skinny? Well, they'll be offering you the chance to sign up with them for 3G and 4G services through O2's network infrastructure, which keeps Sky toe-to-toe with BT who just bought EE and stole a march on Sky's TV dominance.

That said, Sky won't be in the game as far as you're concerned until 2016. There's no official reason for this hold-up, but the fact that O2 are looking like they're going to be taken over by Three will obviously have something to do with it.
