Samsung plans folding phones
Samsung are planning to sell everyone 'smartlets'. Never mind your run-of-the-mill smartphone, or phablets, these will be phones that unfold into a a little tablet device.
One of the devices which has been seen is a 5-inch handset, and it unfolds into an 8-inch device, meaning you get the best of both worlds. It's a little gimmicky, but it just so happens that we like this particular gimmick.
Rumour has it that these devices could be on the shelves in early 2017, so not long to wait.
"This product could be a game-changer if Samsung successfully comes up with a user interface suitable for bendable screens," said Lee Seung Woo, an analyst at IBK Securities Company.
"Next year is a probable scenario. Their biggest obstacle was related to making transparent plastics and making them durable, which seems resolved by now."
Of course, bendy smartphones are a buzzword in the mobile universe, and one company reckons they've come up with one that you could also wear on your wrist. More on that.
LG have a mobile with a flexible screen, and Samsung themselves have showed off a mobile phone screen which you can roll up like a piece of paper.
With bendy screens, the chances of you breaking it are greatly reduced. However, this is the first instance we've seen which utilises a flexible screen, which really seems like a good idea.
