New Sky Go app seems nice if you're happy to line Rupert's pockets

20 July 2011

skygo-ipad If you haven’t been so repulsed by the evil machinations of Rupert Murdoch and his gang of anti-social thugs by now, you might still be a Sky subscriber. If you are, and you’ve got an iPhone or iPad you might be interested in the free Sky Go app, that has launched today and allows you to watch and record Sky on your Apple-flavoured device. Quite tempting eh? The bastard.

You can use the thing to watch selected Sky channels live, with the option to pause and rewind live telly. There's also an electronic programme guide with a little TV in the corner so you watch and search for something else at the same time.

If you’re a Sky customer, you can sign into the app with your Sky user ID. If you’re not, and are dishless, you can get it for £15 a month. The grizzled old shaving foam-faced sod just doesn’t want to let go does he?

Any idea what channels you get? If it's a decent selection and you can connect an iPad to your TV with a dock AV adapter...

It doesn't work on Ipod touch. But it is nice to see Andy Dawson banging the Apple drum again.

The channels I had were Sky Sports 1,2,3,4 and SSN ESPN Sky News Sky Movies Premiere SM Showcase SM Action amd SM Family. So only really useful to full Sky World Subscribers (which I won't be when my offer ends!)

Just tried it on my iPad - the channel selection is crap. Just like the rest of Sky's apps, this is only any good if you're paying for the sports and movie channels, like a mug.

    Where is the Android version?

@Richard Problem is, I am a customer - I just don't fork out the extra for sky sports/movies etc. I was hoping they'd buck their trend of only ever supporting the premium package subscribers and give something to the little guy, but alas not. No Sky 1, Comedy Central, freeview channels, etc.

Why would sky develop an android version - if you can't afford an iPhone you probably don't have sky
