Is the Samsung smartwatch going to hit the shelves next month?

samsung_galaxy_watch Samsung's smartwatch - the 'Galaxy Gear' - is reportedly launching as early as next month according to reports. Apparently, it will be unveiled on 4th September at IFA 2013 in Berlin.

It also looks like the company will be unveiling the Galaxy Note 3 at this year’s IFA, which looks like an impressive piece of kit.

Sources are saying that the Note 3 will feature a 5.7in full HD 1,920 x 1,080 display, a 13-megapixel rear-facing camera and a Snapdragon 800 processor. It'll also have 3GB of RAM and run Android 4.3 Jelly Bean.

Sadly, there's no such detail on the smartwatch, apart from the fact it'll run Android and will run as a companion to your mobile. Still, pretty exciting news if you've been wanting to get your paws on this wearable technology.

Apple, it's over to you.

You didn't mention whether there is a "clock" function. Perhaps this is an optional extra?

It's actually not a bad idea, I just see little market in it. You have your calender on your phone and your watch beeps when you need to go somewhere. But I have my phone on me anyway so it's redundant.

What time is it? I don't know, I've forgotten to charge my watch.

It has plenty of use as a fitness aid if it could integrate a heart rate monitor, taking on Garmin and Polar but offering more functionality, maybe including navigation information for cyclists and runners.

@tom who wants to get their phone out of their pocket? any self respecting fashionista twat will tell you that they look much cooler squinting at a tiny screen on their wrist than using that phone thing "god, phones are so last season!" you really need to get with the iTimes and the pudding named OS's...

What do you think?
