iPhone rumours ahoy! Video and 32GB handset for Summer?

12 February 2009

The Apple rumour mill has been out of commission recently, ever since the iPhone Nano speculation was led round the back and shot through the head with a boltgun. Now attention has swung back to the iPhone proper, and what tweaks and tucks Apple may make to the existing handsets.

Market analyst Mark Abramsky thinks Apple will release two new models of iPhone in the summer. The first will be a 16GB/32GB model with improved camera and new video facilities, and a 8GB basic handset with no GPS or video and costing just $99, or about £75. Business Insider carries the full spec that Abramsky believes we'll see in June/July:

Of course the usual caveats apply; in this instance, the speculation may be the result of a particularly vibrant cheese-induced dream. (As an aside, a friend of mine called Phil once had an idea for a video game called Cheese Dream Warriors, where eating different cheeses before bedtime gave you different superhuman abilities during your dreams; gorgonzola for invisibility, mascarpone for flight, etc). A quick look at Abramsky's recent form doesn't make for pretty reading either.

If you're in the market for an iPhone, it's certainly worth hanging on to see what Apple produce in the Summer - but until they do, we'll all be left guessing.

The iphone is the most overrated mobile in history. If it was not branded with Apple then no one would be interested. The Nokia n95 8gb is similar price to the iphone and miles better.

    another crock of shit.

Will $99 still be about £75 in summer?

Any MMS support? If not, Apple can go back to hell.
  • J-Bo
Joff- you can download an MMS app already for the current iPhone, so it's bound to work on any forthcoming ones.

Feck the MMS, how about download functionality, a working version of flash player, the ability to copy data without using iTunes (for mass storage purposes), a decent camera (one that doesn't blur if you move a fraction of a millimeter) and a decent configurable browser (I don't need to download graphics).

"The Apple rumour mill has been out of commission recently, ever since the iPhone Nano speculation was led round the back and shot through the head with a boltgun." Hold on now, I'm sure you nicked this one (http://www.bitterwallet.com/new-iphone-in-development-definitely-probably-maybe/7022) from the Reg a couple of weeks ago, so that's a dirty great fib.

I don't see what people's obsession is with a shocking technology like MMS. There are SO many other ways to share photographs, Apple have no need to implement such a dated technology. The O2 size restriction for MMS must be something like 50kb, its woeful!

Cheese Dream Warriors, lol. Mozzarella you talking about?

Jay21.... How on earth did you work out the nokia n95 is similar to the iphone? You need to go to specsavers....... not being an apple fanboy, but nokia's tooo late too crap equivalent ( 5800) doesn't half compete, sorry but its the truth like it or not

Craig Grannell at Revert To Saved nicely demolished the idea of a low-cost iPhone. http://reverttosaved.com/2009/02/11/apple-to-go-batsht-crazy-with-low-cost-iphone-according-to-analyst/

I've got the Nokia N95 8GB and I literally love it. I'll be getting the Nokia N97 when it comes out. Apple are like some sort of pathetic fashion accessory. As Jaysexy (lol) says, over-rated crock of shit. The £75 sounds interesting, but only because its a realistic price rather than the BS that they've come up with before. http://www.allaboutsymbian.com/features/item/Black_Beauties_-the_Nokia_N95_8GB_versus_the_Apple_iPhone.php

Some Man .... Jay 21 was referring to the Nokia N95 8GB. Not the Nokia 5800. That's a little bit like him talking about a Ferrari F430 vs a VW Golf, and instead picking up that he's talking about a Fiat Punto VS a VW Golf. Read my post above!

Insert generic anti-iPhone commentary here - oh too late :D
  • Nwodura
Lol @ the tards dissing the iPhone, just because they are too poor to afford one. And to the ignoramus who tried to claim the N95 was better......HAHAAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!
  • The B.
Nwodura, personally I was slagging off the iPhone as I have an 8G 3G model and certain things about it really get up my nose (mainly those listed above). Incidentally, are you bunking off today or is your school still closed because of the snow?

its a blatant lie - the reason why apple werent introducing the iphone nano is cos they dont do cheap fones and lo and behold they are developing a cheap fone - the $99 iphone.. the rumour is a crock of shit
  • jaysexy212005
Some man, I was not comparing the fones. I was saying for the same price, you can buy a mobile that is miles better then the iphone. I have a nokia n95 8gb and it is fantastic. I tried the iphone but thought it was crap.

Jeezuuus christ! You guys need to calm your apple obsession down!! Why is it that everyone either loves or hates apple products? Their just little bits of other companies products stapled together! That said they are very pretty. If you like them buy them if you don't like them, buy a samsung omnia or a lg viewty or something and shut up because nooooooobody cares!!

First of all to all those who MOAN and WHINGE that it doesn't do the things it wants like flash and MMS.... etc.... BUY ANOTHER PHONE!!! Apple created a product that does what it says on the box simple as.. Apple fans appreciate Apple products for what they do. the Iphone does what it does and you buy it for that reason... no other. Apple are not going to do the Nano Iphone because it would be a downscale of what they have now, and what they said is that they don't want to have a handset go backwards rather than forward. so to SID the price has nothing to do with a cheap phone, if Apple have found a way to produce a better handset for £75! then bring it on!, they make enough and are growing fast enough to do this! We have Iphones as company phones they are brilliant, Instant Exchange server connection, easy browsing, the ability to view ALL OFFICE documents on my iphone etc... makes for a great device, but we do use Macbook Pro's as our office IT (which since install has saved £20K a year on IT support and £2k a year on Virus & Anti spam software protection) it just goes down to the whole PC V MAC argument, Macs are simple, easy to use and not over complicated just like the iphone, simple, easy to use and has a video Ipod built in, but hey if you want to go buy a phone that has a thousand nerdy IT things on it like flash, geeky browsers the ability to hack and crack and put different OS systems and install all new things on it then go for it.

Those who are balking at the iPhone are jealous because they can't afford it (the phone or ATT's pricing plan) or are afriad of just accepting the fact that everyone loves the iPhone and most of America couldn't tell you what a Nokia even looks like or one attribute about it. Anyone can spot an iPhone a mile away, even if they don't own one. And no one uuooo and ahhs over their techie phone. The iPhone is fun and yes, stylish, just what Apple was going for. Kudos. So, they were very successful in what they set out to do. And, by the way, I hate Nokia, it's a piece of junk....had two.
