£163,000 mobile bill for confused Orange customers
Alan and Carolyn Mazkouri from Swansea normally pay £300 a month with Orange for their mobile deal. They've been with Orange for 15 years, but that's all about to change.
That's because they've been slapped with a surprise £163,178.86 which implied that Alan's phone had been using the internet every 20 minutes.
The bother began last summer, when Alan found his mobile had been overheating and he got it replaced. Soon enough, he found he was unable to make calls and he was told that this was because he had a large unsettled bill.
Orange acknowledged the mistake and agreed to wipe the debt, but Alan was still being charged. Orange finally cottoned on and cancelled the bill and offered £250 in compensation.
"We apologise to the Mazkouris for the inconvenience," a representative said. "We have fully refunded all charges from this exceptionally high bill and offered a further gesture of goodwill. We look forward to hearing from them."
Alan, meanwhile, is looking for a new mobile provider.
