Commercial Break: Iggy Cock

5 January 2010

A year ago, music fans of a certain age and persuasion were alarmed, nay enraged, nay heartbroken to see Iggy Pop sully a 40-year-long reputation for being effortlessly cool smashed apart into bits by his appearance in an advert for a frigging insurance company.

When it later turned out that the company in question, Swiftcover, refused to insure rockers like Mr Pop, the ad was briefly banned. But now Iggy is back, and is behind the wheel of an automobile and, we can only assume, with a few potato sacks filled with silver coins stuffed in the boot.

Yes, it’s another Swiftcover ad, and this time Iggy (played by Hugh Laurie’s grandfather) is accompanied by what at first glance appears to be his own penis sporting a ladies wig. The overriding message is that Swiftcover will give you a quote in under 60 seconds, allowing you more time in your life.

Time for driving around LA with an out-of-control Spitting Image puppet behaving like a complete bell end in the passenger seat, presumably. Iggy, you’re dead to us.

Which one's the real Iggy Pop?

The one on the right I think....

Why bash the legendary Hugh Laurie's grandfather? He's probably better looking than Iggy anyway (and younger)

Someone punch that man in the face

But seriously, don't you get the joke?

There's a quite good parody of his earlier ad here.

What do you think?
