Len Dastard reports - New EU Consumer Rights Directive receives final approval
Escuche arriba, hermosas personas! It is I, Len Dastard, full time litigation executive and part time pretend lucha libre! I get my kicks from assisting the fearless consumer. There is nothing that Len wouldn't do for you. Believe that.
You may remember some months ago I brought news of a proposed EU Consumer Rights Directive. Lets not go over old ground as, to be frank, I don't have the time. Plus, I would also have to change my name. You can read it for yourselves here.
This month has seen the EU's Council of Ministers vote to adopt the Consumer Rights Directive. The proposal was already approved by the European Parliaments so it now means that it is able to come into force in 2013. It is still a couple of years away but it will need to be published in the Official Journal of the EU and then give member states 2 years from that date to implement the measures into their national law.
We are already looking at further protection in the UK with the announcement that the government is looking to consolidate consumer protection legislation to make reference to the law easier. So, seems like some further good news for consumers. Which is the type of news we like, isn't it.
