Tesco fail on Clubcard rush, force staff through hoops for bonuses

8 December 2010

Bitterwallet - tesco logoRemember Tesco slashing the worth of clubcard vouchers? Well, there's more trouble with them as scores of people faced stupidly long queues while trying to cash them in at stores. Those trying to use them on the website, in an attempt to escape the throng, were met with an error message as Tesco's site couldn't cope with the number of people trying to log on.

And so, the complaints started rolling in. And they couldn;t get through to the call-centres either.

So, obviously, customers did the only thing left as an option, and that was to swarm around internet forums and whine and moan about the whole shoddy experience.

Tesco said: ‘We experienced a huge last-minute rush over the weekend. This meant that some customers were not able to exchange their vouchers or had problems with the process, and missed the deadline of 5th December. We are doing everything we can at our customer service centres to help those customers affected.’

Will they be extending the deadline? Don't hold your breath.

Still, at least Tesco are looking after their staff, right? Well, all 280,000 employees of the company been given a Christmas present of a voucher worth up to £20 as well as a discount booklet worth a further £120! However, you can only spend it at a Tesco store.

The Telegraph report that the £20 voucher is only redeemable on a "spend £5 and get £1 off" basis, meaning staff would have to buy £100 worth of groceries to get the full benefit. Except the discount booklet can't be used on useful things like food or booze. How entirely pointless.

Merry humbug one and all!

I remember during my education days I worked at Tesco. The smugness I had pulling out additional money off vouchers and 10% off my bill with my silver privilege card. Looking back on it I'm sure everyone was not actually jealous but mocked me for my meaningless job. Anyway back on topic, Tesco bonuses? Don't make me laugh. You aren't allowed to take tips off customers, not that anyone would fucking give you one anyway.

WRONG Staff can use all the £1 off vouchers on one item as long as the original amount is still over £5, got myself a nice Nintendo DSI XL with £20 off.

Hey, I dont work for Tescos or sainsburys but I managed to get a DSi XL from Sainsburys for £108 recently as a normal paying customer, I presume to celebrate a year of good work Tescos vouchers mean you got it cheaper than that, I havn't had to work for Tescos for a whole year less than you and got that product cheaper. What a Lame Bonus

I'm really glad I don't work at Tesco as I can't fit through a hoop.

PokeHerPete I got a tip once, from a nice old gent when I found him the last frozen turkey of a particular weight on christmas eve. He gave me a whole pound. I was so happy. I didnt tell anyone just like he said.... The voucher books are nothing new they had them when I left years ago.

Regarding the clubcard shitstorm, I got an email back that said I can still get the 4x value if I send my vouchers off to them in the post. This is obviously a ploy to put people (including myself) off converting the vouchers, as they know most people can't be bothered or don't have time to go through the hassle. Dark patterns!

It's bout time tesco gave staff decent bonuses, leahy worth millions in bonuses every year, WHY? cos of the work staff put in. All we get is crappy money off coupons to use in their own store, even found out last week that if i want to replace my worn out uniform that I would have to buy it myself. If tesco hadn't shut half the retailers in this town down, I would have found another job to go to
