Morrison's employee arrested after data theft

17 March 2014

morrisons 300x300 Morrisons have confirmed that one of their employees has been arrested after someone stole a load of payroll data from them last week. Around 100,000 members of staff had their details pinched.

The information included bank account details and was published online.

Morrisons have stated that they ensured the information was taken offline and that their employees wouldn't be "financially disadvantaged" by the data theft. The retailer was also keen to point out that this breach did not include any customer data.

They will also be doing a thorough review of their internal data security systems and, if you're a member of staff who is worried about all this, a helpline has been set up. Morrisons has also contacted all the banks and are working with them to make sure everyone's accounts are protected.

This is all troubling news for the megagrocer as it comes on the back of the reported £176m loss and profit warnings.
